Palo Santo (bursera graveolens) is an aromatic tree in the dry forests of Ecuador and Peru, used by the locals and shamans as indigenous medicine to cure many diseases and for this reason, the Spanish call it "Santo", meaning "holy" or "saint". Palo Santo is often referred to as the "Holy Wood".
Although there is oil in young saplings, the highest quality comes from the aged heartwood. TWL only sources Palo Santo obtained via sustainable eco-harvesting and fair trade, and who participate in reforestation projects.
The characteristic aroma of Palo Santo comes from its high terpenes in the aged wood, especially limonene and a-terpineol and is attracting much modern interest and scientific research in the area against several types of cancer.
In aromatherapy the oil is used for panic attacks, anxiety, respiratory problems, headaches and migraines, inflammation, muscle aches and pains, wounds and sprains, insect repellant. Spiritually, it is used for meditation, ridding negative energies, removing blockages, attracting synchronicities.
