Plai (zingiber cassumuna) is the same family as Ginger, except stronger in actions. Highly regarded for its anti-inflammatory, pain relief, relaxing actions and is a main ingredient in popular Thai massage oils, ointments and balms. Use in place of Ginger for that extra oomph. Plai essential oil also has high levels of Terpinene-4ol which makes it a good antiseptic for cuts and healing tissue wounds.
To ease painful sprains, boost circulation and reduce swellings, add 4 drops Plai, 5 drops Lavender High Altitude, and 3 drops German Chamomile to 20ml carrier oil and apply lightly to affected area. Then apply cold compress for 10-15 minutes.
Safety: Nontoxic, nonirritant. As with Ginger, may cause sensitisation in hypersensitive or allergy-prone individuals.
