Spearmint (mentha spicata) essential oil can be used wherever Peppermint would be used. Less menthol and less powerful than Peppermint oil, it is better suited for children and the elderly. In medieval times, British monastery and cottage gardens grew Spearmint, using the fresh leaves as a remedy for headaches, stomach aches, mouth care, and digestive upsets.
Aromatherapy/Home Use example:
To soothe indigestion, flatulence, stomach cramps, nausea, try 4 drops Spearmint, 3 drops Ginger, and 3 drops Lavender High Altitude in 20ml carrier oil and massage it into the abdomen. Use a clockwise motion following the gut, twice or three times a day.
Safety: Not compatible with homeopathic treatment.
